News and Notes: Chickamauga 150

Tonight I thought would take a quick break from the packing to write a quick Chickamauga-themed update for the blog. The move to Virginia is less than two weeks away, and hopefully once I'm settled I can resume posts on a fairly regular basis.

As we commemorate yet another 150th anniversary I've run across some interesting items on the web today:

• The Civil War Trust has produced another of their well done animated battle maps, and once again has released it just in time for the Chickamauga anniversary. It loads a bit slow (at least on my computer) but it's well worth your time.
• The Civil War Trust is also featuring a live twitter feed that will follow the unfolding events of the battle in real time over the next few days.
• NPR has a piece commemorating Chickamauga that highlights portraits of Braxton Bragg and William S. Rosecrans from the National Portrait Gallery.
• Finally, those of us who can't be in attendance at the commemorative events presented by the National Park Service can follow on Facebook by liking Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. The very same NPS social media team that has done such a great job at other recent commemorative events will provide excellent coverage over the next several days.

I've never been out to Chickamauga myself, but I hope to one day. I'll be following along from afar as I can over the next few days, and hopefully I'll get a better grasp of what to me has always been a hugely confusing battle.
